Hi Mark,
Since, this issue has started after upgrading to Windows 8.1; this could be due to the incompatible network card drivers installed on the computer. I would suggest you to install the latest Windows 8.1 compatible network card drivers and check if that resolves the issue. Please try the following steps and let’s know the result.
a)Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard and select “Device Manager” from that list.
b)Locate “DisplayLink Network Adapter” in the “Device Manager” window, right click on it and select the option “Uninstall”.
c)On the un-installation window, if you have an option: “Delete the driver software for this device” you may select that and then remove the incorrect drivers from the computer.
d)Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process and restart the computer, if prompted.
After the restart, you may again open the Device Manager and then click on the “Scan for hardware changes” button at the top of the “Device Manager” window and check if Windows 8.1 detects the network card and installs an appropriate driver for it automatically. If it is able to install the drivers automatically, then check if the issue still persists.
If the issue still persists, then try the following steps to update the drivers and check the status.
a)Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard and select “DeviceManager” from that list.
b)Locate “DisplayLink Network Adapter” in the “Device Manager” window, right click on it and select the option “Update Driver Software”.
c)In the “Update Driver Software” window, select the option “Browse my computer for driver software”
d)Now, click on the “Browse” button and locate the drivers in the location “C:Program FilesDisplayLink Core SoftwareCdcNcmDriverNdis6.2.Hck81” and then click “OK”.
e)Follow the onscreen instructions and restart the computer if prompted.
f)Check if that resolves the issue.
